Spring is an interesting time for me. One of mixed emotions. Every spring I'm reminded of loss because it is the time three dear family members of mine passed away; all too young. Yet spring is also when the world is renewing, blooming and beautiful. It's when I celebrate birthdays of many, anniversaries, and motherhood AND fatherhood.

Today my five year old woke up in a horrible, awful, no-good mood. He started telling me that I was the one that made him angry, and I found myself telling him that "you can blame other people, but you are the one in charge of your feelings," a sentiment I've found myself saying many times to different children, and even to myself.

It's easy to blame, isn't it? It's easy to feel sad and angry sometimes. But life IS beautiful, and life IS what we make of it. For me, I want to always choose happiness over sadness. I want to always choose the positive over the negative. I'm still working on it, and I have a feeling I will my entire life, but it's what I want my children to see me striving for. Because life is worth celebrating.

I have had the amazing, wonderful opportunity to photograph many newborns this year. One of my all-time favorite subjects to photograph. And it is such a blessing to me to get to feel the strength of the innocence in these lives. The strength of potential. The growth of love. These little lives are so important and so life-changing, and I am grateful for the opportunity to feel the hope and love that these families cannot help but exude when in their presence.
