Experimenting with light

It seems like I haven't picked up my camera and tried something new in a long time and I'm feeling a bit restless about it. Today it is really dark at my house-the clouds have rolled right off of the mountain and settled in to hug us. Davis says the sunshine must be tired, and I suppose I have to agree. But this was the perfect opportunity to get out my flash and play around with it. I worked for a while trying different settings (I tend to stay safe and use the exposure through the lens mode) and had a lot of fun. I got some good results and some bad results, but it's a great way to learn, right? But this is one of the more dramatic photos that I just love. My little girl has these big eyes that just stand out and normally I focus a lot on the eyes when I take pictures, but I love the little details about her too-her nose, her lips, her long fingers, and I love that the lighting in this highlights those less obvious, but beautiful, details that make her so unique.
